The Emergence of CCS in Malaysia and Indonesia

With Malaysia and Indonesia announcing that carbon capture and storage will play a role in decarbonising their respective industrial sectors, the two are the first countries to enter the CCS market in Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, government-owned energy enterprise, Petronas, is forging ahead with its inaugural CCS project to tackle emissions in the natural gas sector. In Indonesia, BP will turn to CCS to decarbonise its liquefied natural gas operations in West Papua province, and Repsol is adopting CCS in an effort to mitigate over 2 million tonnes of CO2 from their operations in Sakakemang, South Sumantra. This webinar, hosted by the Global CCS Institute, assessed the impact these projects will have in the region, and unpacked CCS policy more broadly.
