US Senate Advances Bipartisan Infrastructure Package with Significant Provisions for CCS

The U.S. Senate has advanced the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act by a vote of 69-30. The package, which contains significant provisions for carbon capture and storage (CCS), is broadly viewed as an important step in long-term, meaningful climate action from this Congress.
The infrastructure package comprises $550 billion in new federal spending over five years. Notably for CCS, this includes $2.5 bn for CCS demonstration projects and $3.5 bn for four direct air capture (DAC) hubs. The package also contains the SCALE Act in its entirety, which will support the financing and construction of CO2 transport and storage infrastructure.
