Countdown to COP Series – Part II – Reaching Net Zero: The Paris Agreement, Regional Climate Commitments and the Role of CCS

30th August 2021

Location(s): Virtual

As more governments and energy intensive sectors commit to reaching net-zero targets by 2050, carbon capture and storage (CCS) is increasingly becoming a main feature in climate mitigations plans. Climate research show that CCS will be responsible for 15% of the worlds emissions reductions to reach mid-century targets. This event will provide insights on the current state of CCS policies in various regions around the world, and take a closer look at multilateral efforts that can be taken to accelerate the deployment of CCS globally.

Joining us will be:

  • Stig Svenningsen - Government of Norway, Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Petroleum of Energy
  • Shuchi Talati - United States Department of Energy, Chief Of Staff, Fossil Energy & Carbon Management
  • Paul Watkinson - Former Chief Negotiator of the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, former Chair of the UNFCCC SBSTA
