To achieve the Paris Agreement goals of keeping the global temperature well below 2 degrees and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees, it is inevitable to remove carbon dioxides from the atmosphere using negative emissions technologies. In particular, bioenergy with CCS (BECCS) is emerging as the best solution to decarbonize emission intensive industries.
This webinar will provide an overview of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) and will cover a wide range of aspects of BECCS, including:

- its role in achieving the goal of the Paris Agreement,
- different types of BECCS technologies including waste-to-energy
- overview of deployment of BECCS technologies and projects,
- the costs of BECCS technologies,
- outlook and potential of BECCS.
Presenters
Dr. David T Kearns
Dr. David T Kearns is Senior Consultant in Carbon Capture and Storage Technology with the Global CCS Institute. In his role, David provides technical leadership and strategic insight to the Institute's members and clients in CCS technology. David has diverse experience across the energy, industrial and research sectors. For the past ten years, he has focussed on carbon, energy and sustainability consulting for clients in the coal, oil and gas, pulp and paper, electricity generation and cement manufacturing sectors. Previously David was a senior process design engineer in the petrochemicals and oil and gas industries. David is also an experienced university lecturer and industry trainer in sustainable processing, process design and renewable energy technologies. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Bachelor degrees in Engineering and Commerce from Monash University, Australia.
Dominic Rassool
Dominic Rassool is the Senior Consultant – Policy and Finance at the Global CCS Institute, and is based in London, UK. With over five years’ experience working in the climate finance sector, Dominic has acted as a technical expert or an adviser to several projects, including ones developed by the United Nations Development Programme. He has significant experience in the design and development of climate change mitigation projects across the Middle East, North Africa and Western African states as well as Small Island Developing States, specialising in funding from multi-lateral funds, namely the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Dominic has broad experience developing renewable energy projects in high-risk environments and has deep expertise in policy and financial de-risking to support investments in climate mitigation projects. He holds an undergraduate degree in Sustainable Built Environment from the University of Nottingham and a Masters degree in Environmental Design Engineering from UCL.
